Tree Care That Understands the Cambie Corridor
The Cambie Corridor is unlike anywhere else in Vancouver right now. The City of Vancouver’s Cambie Corridor Plan has triggered the most concentrated residential redevelopment in the city — older single-family homes being replaced by townhouses, low-rise condos, and the Oakridge mega-development reshaping the southern half of the corridor. For tree care, that’s created an entire category of work that barely existed a decade ago: development-driven retention assessments, construction protection plans, and arborist reports tied directly to permit applications.
When a property in the corridor changes hands or files for redevelopment, the City of Vancouver typically requires a certified arborist report identifying all significant trees on the lot, recommending retention versus removal, and specifying root protection zones for any trees that stay. Our ISA-certified arborists produce reports that meet city standards and work directly with developers, architects, and homeowners on what those zones look like in practice — the fencing, the soil compaction limits, the work that can and can’t happen inside the dripline.
For homeowners not in redevelopment, the corridor still has its own arboricultural character. Queen Elizabeth Park forms the eastern edge of South Cambie and Oakridge, and the mature canopy across Little Mountain — Douglas Firs, Western Red Cedars, and the heritage tree collection — overhangs adjacent residential blocks. Park-adjacent trees raise the same jurisdictional questions we see in Dunbar and West Point Grey: which side of the line, whose responsibility, what’s the city’s role.
South Cambie’s older single-family stock still includes substantial specimens — particularly along Heather, Willow, and Cambie itself — that benefit from ongoing maintenance rather than just reactive removal. We do real arboriculture here: structural pruning to extend useful life, deep-root fertilization for stressed urban trees, and risk assessments on the larger specimens that are starting to show their age.

What Cambie Corridor Homeowners Say
Posted on Google Challen Pride-ThorneTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. (updated review June 2026) This is my second experience with Devine Tree Services, and I continue to be impressed by the consistency of their service. Lawrence and Tim completed our winter pruning in December, while Jackson and George were the arborists on site for this summer's work. Both teams demonstrated excellent skill, professionalism, and attention to detail. I appreciated the company's communication throughout the process. The appointment reminders included the service instructions that owner Tiger Devine had provided during our consultation. Because the work was divided into winter and summer phases, the reminders were a helpful reference and reinforced our earlier discussions. The reminders also identified the arborists who would be performing the work. I value knowing who is coming to my property, and it allows me to personally thank the individuals involved and confidently recommend them to friends and neighbours. We have two old-growth Western Red Cedars that required deadwood removal, hazard mitigation, and a slight raising of the canopy. In addition, we requested that the height of a large rhododendron be reduced while retaining an attractive, natural profile. George took the time to review my request to reduce the rhododendron's height by two to three feet. He explained that such a significant reduction would result in a less natural appearance for a few seasons. Instead, he recommended a gentler pruning approach that moved the branches away from the house and surrounding maple tree without giving the shrub an overly "buzz-cut" appearance. When I came outside to view the final result—especially the cedars—I remarked that I loved how you could feel the change more than see it. The space seemed airier, and the light filtered beautifully through the trees. Jackson's skill in the canopy was evident in the finished result. I also appreciated the teamwork involved, with one arborist in the tree and another on the ground helping to ensure safety and offering a different vantage point on what needed adjustment. Together, they achieved a result that felt both natural and carefully considered. The team also provided pruning and shrub-care advice so that my husband and I can maintain the trees until the next time we need Devine Tree Services' help. They arrived as scheduled, communicated with us throughout the process, and left the property spotless when the work was complete. We would be happy to use Devine Tree Services again and recommend them to friends and neighbours. (December 2025) I highly recommend Devine Arboricultural Solutions. Tiger Devine, the company owner, provided valuable tree health advice during our consultation. After the appointment, we were promptly provided with an online estimate outlining pruning for each tree, divided into winter and summer work. Our winter work was completed by Lawrence and Tim, who did an excellent job pruning our cherry tree, lotus tree, and Japanese maple. They removed limbs to provide roof clearance, shaped outliers, and cleared deadwood, carefully ensuring that too much live foliage was not removed, which helps to maintain the trees’ health. I especially appreciated that they showed us the initial trim and discussed the remaining plan before completing the work. The work area was left spotless, with all cuttings removed and the ground thoroughly cleaned. The team was professional, knowledgeable, and friendly throughout.Posted on Google Makyta SimmsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I’ve been a client of Devine Arboricultural Solutions for several years and have consistently been impressed with the quality of their work. Most recently, Tiger’s team did an outstanding job trimming a very large, overgrown hedge on our property, completing the work with impressive efficiency. They also expertly pruned several trees, leaving everything looking clean, balanced, and well-maintained. Tim, Ed, Jackson, and Ollie were professional, courteous, and detailed-oriented throughout the process. Their care and workmanship really stood out. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their services to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality arboricultural work.Posted on Google Pat McKenzieTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Common Questions
Tree care along the Cambie Corridor frequently involves redevelopment permits, retention reports, and standard City of Vancouver bylaw requirements. Here are the questions we hear most often.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in the Cambie Corridor?
Almost certainly. The City of Vancouver’s Protection of Trees Bylaw requires a permit to remove any tree with a diameter of 20 cm or greater, measured 1.4 metres above the ground, anywhere in Vancouver. In the Cambie Corridor specifically, properties tied to development applications face additional requirements — a full retention survey and arborist report identifying which trees stay and which can go, along with root protection plans for retained trees. We handle both standard removal permits and development-driven retention work. Permit and handling fees apply and are always outlined in your quote.
How much does tree removal cost in Cambie Corridor?
Tree removal costs vary depending on the size, species, location, and access to the tree. Rather than publish ranges that may not reflect your specific situation, we provide a no-obligation free estimate — with a written quote returned within 48 hours. No surprises, no hidden fees.
What's the difference between a certified arborist and a regular tree service?
Not all tree care is equal. An ISA Certified Arborist has passed the ISA exam, covering tree biology, pruning standards, risk assessment, and safe work practices. In BC, only ISA Certified Arborists can produce official arborist reports, and their work meets insurance standards that uncertified contractors do not. It’s the difference between guesswork and expertise.
Do you offer emergency tree service after storms?
Yes, 24/7. Mature trees along the corridor — particularly the larger specimens on older single-family lots and the heritage canopy bordering Queen Elizabeth Park — see significant wind damage in major storms. Call us any time and a certified arborist will assess and secure the situation as quickly as possible.
Is your company insured for work in Cambie Corridor?
Yes. We carry $5 million in commercial general liability insurance and all workers are covered under WorkSafeBC. We provide certificates of insurance before any job begins — because if an uninsured contractor is injured on your property, you may be held liable under BC law.
